CHAN13 AT 23 SQUARE STREET IN SHEUNG WAN
Chan13 is an artist and architect from the Mainland, holding a Ph.D. in architecture history from Harvard University, and his years of research training instil a scholarly rigor in his work. As a successor of traditional architectural craftsmanship and an independent watchmaker, his style blends horological art with the aesthetics of traditional Chinese architecture.
Chan13 works with the unique architecture of his mural at 23 Square Street in Sheung Wan by preserving both windows, employing gray tones to depict the urban buildings, orange hues to represent the golden reflections from skyscrapers during sunrises and sunsets, and interspersed them with the signature purple-red of Bauhinia flowers, and a pearl that echoes with Hong Kong’s well-known nickname: Pearl of the East. The mural is his representation of Hong Kong’s cityscape where architecture and art converse.
