Make & Do HK is a creative platform set up by two sisters; Becky Gilmour whose background is in Textiles & Fashion and Lucy Gilmour whose specialism is in Crafts & Embroidery.

They set out with a vision to provide a place for creatives to learn, for artists to collaborate and bring together a community of like minded individuals. To inspire fellow designer makers, cultivating creativity in a loving and supportive environment. Brought together through a need to immerse fully into the exploration of craft, to share knowledge, to pass on age old skills and techniques in a way that is relatable to now.

They run workshops at Three Keys Craft space in Chai Wan, as well as hosting events at other locations around Hong Kong.Teaching with their own cheeky spin on traditional handmade crafts, e.g. ”Not Your Grandma’s Embroidery”

Becky Gilmour, the owner of Make & Do Hong Kong, had been working in the fashion industry for 13 years, first in the UK and then onto New York, before moving to Hong Kong. After moving here, she found she really needed a creative outlet beyond her demanding day job, so began holding creative gatherings out of her small flat in Sai Ying Pun. In the beginning it was just a small group of her friends getting together to sew, to make costumes for festivals, to bake cakes or to brain storm ideas. Realising that spending time with others and creating something with your hands is a wonderful way to release the stresses and strains of daily life, they knew that this was something Hong Kong needed! Their original Facebook group started with just 20 close friends, and the bigger it got (now a community of over 2,000 people), the less room they had to run events from home. So along with her sister Lucy, they started to host weekend workshops at Three Keys Craft Space in Chai Wan. In 2017, Becky took a leap of faith and left her fashion career job, and moved Make & Do HK full-time into their first design studio.
